Stailc 81 is a collective of working class people who have come together to ensure that the 40th anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike is marked in a fitting manner. Some of us were on the Blanket protest along with the H Block martyrs, others weren’t born until years after the deaths of the 10 – all of us have been inspired by their sacrifice.
Our aim is not only to remember the courage and sacrifice of the H Block martyrs and their comrades, but to celebrate their lives and their ultimate victory over those who sought to criminalise them. Over the course of 2021, we will organise a series of events which will celebrate the hunger strikers’ contribution to the republican struggle, their role in reviving the Irish language, and their commitment to their communities, their class and their country.
Stailc 81 aim to shine a light on the legacy of the 10 and their impact on struggle today and wider society. At 12:30 today Stailc 81 will issue a statement on how we will be organising in the year ahead.
